Entertainment or Ew?
Just what was the point of the ad? That´s what the Parents Television Council (PTC) wanted to know. The advertisement´s locale was CBS´ website which begs the question, who were they trying to target? Anyone already on the site is clearly a fan of CBS and/or looking for more information about some part of CBS and friends.
The next problem becomes why they were using known children´s cartoons to talk about strippers, whores, pornography, sadomasochism, sexual promiscuity, etc. Just what were they trying to accomplish? The children would certainly be attracted to the frosty ad, but they are exactly the ones who shouldn´t be seeing it. And adults may or may not be attracted to it but even if they were, and even if they found it funny, they are already on the CBS website! So they are probably already fans of the two shows in which they were trying to advertise.
It really just doesn´t make any sense. The intentions of the ad were to promote CBS´ airing of "Frosty" and his sequel, but again, who were they marketing it to? Parents with kids who would watch it would think this is wildly inappropriate (hopefully) and so begs the question, again, just what were they thinking?
